Aprile 2012 Newsletter: Spring into summer in the garden

April 2012 Newsletter

With all this lovely sunny warm weather recently I decided to spring clean my summer house. It’s a little vintage haven in my garden, filled with all the lovely things I have collected over the years.

My own summerhouse !

I renovated a pair of 'ocean liner' vintage deckchairs a few years ago and framed some vintage embroideries, collected little jugs and old enamelware.

A small area of grass or rustic decking creates a space for table and chairs for relaxing lunches or afternoon teas. The old fold-up metal framed chairs were picked up from a local jumble sale for a pound each and repaired using old timber slats to preserve the vintage feel.

New arrivals

Manual Canovas, the French designer, has just released a beautiful collection of summer inspired prints, one of which is currently on display in the shop window. The full collection will be arriving in store within the next few days.

By painting a basic garden shed or summer house inside and out, it can set the theme for a little bolt-hole in the garden. Fill it with all the things you like; you can create a vintage New England or beach house feel very easily.  Hang seaside themed pictures, display shells and pebbles you have collected from the beach, the odd lobster pot and a couple of deckchairs and you could think you are in Southwold!

This tiny shed below, propped up on 4 old stone mushrooms, has been painted on the outside in a dark shade to reduce its presence in the garden, whilst the light cream interior opens out the inside and suggests a far larger building than it actually is. Careful use of paints inside and out allow a building to both blend into the surroundings and simultaneously feels bright and cheerful at the same time.

If money is no object, you could even aquire a beautiful shephards hut such as the one below - very chic!
